Why I won't always link to a photo reference:

I've uploaded the first 3 or 4 images in my "feminine abstractions" set and none of them link back to a reference image so far. I don't think it should surprise anyone that I do use reference images to make these pictures, and normally I'd be more than willing to link back to the original reference. So why not on these images?

Well, the first several images are mostly based on images from sites I can't link to on dA because:
1) Some of them are only available to members of certain sites. I've paid for access to the image. The images were/are available with the intent that they be used to make derivative images if a user so desired. However, if I tried to link to them, you'd just get a big "access denied" screen (or something similar, you get the point).
2) The image is hosted on a site that dA's admins most likely would not approve of. I've seen several cases where someone has had their deviation pulled down for linking to a "porn" site. It's annoying. I don't want that to happen to my images. I'm not going to post the links or the urls; so don't ask.

And... I'll be honest; Sometimes I'm paying these sites to get the image; The site (generally run by a company and not an individual artist/photographer) is not paying me to promote them, advertise for them, or increase their customer base. So why should I?

If I'm allowed to use an image that is available on dA, I will of course link back to the original and give credit where credit is due. I don't have the time, money, or resources to hire models and obtain my own reference materials, so without these other sources, I'd be up a creek.
